Pedestrian Crossing Signage

IMG_0152.jpg

Signage has been installed to alert highway traffic to the presence of pedestrians and bicyclers who cross from the Safety Path on the north side of the Sterling Hwy to the separated pathway on Snug Harbor Rd.  This should help improve safety at this complex crossing where it can be difficult for traffic to see walkers and bikers in the area.  There's a lot happening at this intersection with the church, emergency services, and the post office on one side and the State Park boat launch and businesses on the other.  Traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian has increased in this area.  We are grateful that the Department of Transportation has seen fit to install pedestrian alert signs to make traffic on the highway more aware of traffic on the pathways where the two "cross paths".

The Snug Harbor Pathway and Paving project is largely complete!

Thanks to a grant from Kenai Mountains Turnagain Arm National Heritage Area (KMTA) a workshop was held in June 2017 to develop a plan for Snug Harbor pathway amenities and a master plan for further trail integration regarding theme, wayfinding, and trail side amenities.  Please see the section titled Projects, Pathway and Trail Integration Plan on this website for more details.

Our governing body of Cooper Landing Community Club has approved our next project on Bean Creek Rd.  The pathway will be developed by hand in sections as we are able with materials and volunteers.  The piece from the Community Hall westward to Bean Creek will be our first target.  We plan to begin with community outreach to those who live near by and go from there.  Click here for a brochure with information.

The new fiber-grate pathway and safety barriers on the bridge are complete and ready for use. Thank you to the Cooper Landing Community for selecting the Walkable Community Project as the number one priority in Capital Funds Allocation for 2010 and 2011 resulting in funds that allowed this project to take place. Thanks also to the AK DOT and Granite Construction for steady and purposeful work and for keeping traffic disturbance minimized.
